Are Spirit Guides an Illusion? Exploring A Course in Miracles and Divine Guidance

Aloha and Happy Weekend!

The Humble Observer newsletter is back after an extended summer break. I hope you’ve all been thriving and enjoying your summer! It’s been a much-needed time to reflect, and I’m excited to dive back into some meaningful insights with you.

A deep question from one of my new readers sparked reflection, and I'd like to share my response with you. The question was simple yet profound:

"I've been studying A Course in Miracles, which teaches that this world is an illusion. Does that mean spirit guides are also an illusion? How can I get guidance from someone if we are all ONE?"

This inquiry touches on fundamental spiritual concepts and opens the door to exploring the nature of high-level spirit guides.

A Course in Miracles indeed teaches that the world we perceive is an illusion, much like the concept of “Maya” in Vedic texts, which describes “the powerful force that creates the cosmic illusion that the phenomenal world is real.” Buddhism and Indigenous teachings also emphasize the illusory nature of the physical world.

However, this doesn’t negate the existence or importance of spirit guides.

Think of it this way: although we are all ultimately ONE—splinters of the divine oneness experiencing different aspects of existence—our spirit guides are fellow souls here to support us in this Earthly experience, which seems so real to us.

In the context of A Course in Miracles, while the world of form may be illusory, the guidance, love, and support from spirit guides reflect the eternal reality of love.

Spirit guides reside on what’s often referred to as the "causal plane," a high-frequency realm beyond the illusion of our material world. This plane is free from the dense energies of fear, ego, and separation that characterize life on Earth.

While the physical world is experienced through our senses, the causal plane exists beyond our comprehension. It is a realm without physical forms, consisting purely of thoughts, love, and light.

They’re neither part of our illusion nor an illusion themselves. Their purpose is to guide us toward discovering our true nature in this incarnation, far beyond the persona we identify with as “I” within this illusion.

Our illusion of separation serves as a tool for learning and growth.

Our souls, fragments of the One, embark on unique paths and lessons, while spirit guides are highly evolved souls who have chosen to help us navigate this process.

For example, spirit guides have gently nudged me toward meeting individuals who played a key role in my personal and spiritual development at pivotal moments in my life.

Such encounters weren’t mere coincidences but divinely orchestrated synchronicities and connections. Every soul we encounter is a mirror, reflecting lessons that help us awaken within this illusion.

Spirit guides assist us in returning to oneness and love by helping us see beyond the illusions of fear, guilt, and separation.

They guide us through the incomprehensible paradox to our human mind—the illusion of separation within a reality where we are all one.

They remind us of our spiritual truth while honoring the individual experiences our souls are meant to have.

Their existence aligns with the teaching of A Course in Miracles—that all things, even within the illusion, can be tools for awakening to the truth of oneness.

High-level spirit guides exist outside time, space, and ego limitations. They are fully aware of the interconnectedness of all souls and offer guidance from this higher perspective. Their understanding transcends our challenges, yet they remain lovingly attuned to our Earthly experiences.

By tuning into the guidance of our high-level spirit guides, we can tap into this higher frequency of existence, gradually peeling back the layers of illusion to experience the truth of oneness.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and personal experiences on this topic. Feel free to reply to this email.

With gratitude and love,
Will

Namaste 😊🙏🏼✨ Many of us seek a deeper sense of purpose and connection in today’s fast-paced, material-driven world. We meditate, journal, practice yoga, explore various spiritual practices, and attend workshops and retreats. But the global “esoteric circus” has become so massive and loud that it’s easy to lose sight and get confused. While we search for truth and inspiration outside, we tend to forget that all the answers we need are waiting inside to be revealed. One profound source of truth...

Namaste! Recently, a reader sent a powerful question that resonates with so many of us: “How do I keep my vibration high amongst the bombardment of ‘stuff’ around me, in everyday relationships, my neighborhood, and the world at large?” This question struck a deep chord because it does feel like we're getting bombarded with more "stuff" than ever before. Staying aligned with our highest vibration can feel like a monumental task in a world filled with distractions, emotional turbulence, and...

Aloha 🙏🏼 I get asked about this quite often, that’s why I wanted to address it and share some thoughts, along with practical tips to help make meditation more accessible and enjoyable. You're not alone if you've tried meditating and found yourself struggling to sit still or quiet the endless chatter in your head. The good news is that meditation does not require you to have a perfectly still body or mind. It's a practice that meets you where you are and grows with you over time. Let's explore...
